Why we are striking to defend education

Hundreds of thousands of workers in schools, colleges and public services went on strike today to defend their conditions and services from the ConDem government’s austerity agenda. I spoke to a shop steward on UCU picket line at City & Islington College about why he and his members chose to be there this morning, and what they think the next steps should be.

Many thanks to all the UCU members on strike at City & Islington, and solidarity to everyone out today. Get down there and show your support, even if you won’t be coming out today. Every person who stands up to defend the traditions of democracy and social support in this country is another nail in the bosses’ coffin.

The workers united will never be defeated.
